The first Web search engine was Wandex, a now-defunct index collected by the World Wide Web Wanderer, a web crawler developed by Matthew Gray at MIT in 1993. Another very early search engine, Aliweb, also appeared in 1993, and still runs today. JumpStation (released in early 1994) used a crawler to find web pages for searching, but search was limited to the title of web pages only. One of the first “full text” crawler-based search engines was WebCrawler, which came out in 1994. Unlike its predecessors, it let users search for any word in any webpage, which became the standard for all major search engines since. It was also the first one to be widely known by the public. Also in 1994 Lycos (which started at Carnegie Mellon University) was launched, and became a major commercial endeavor.

Soon after, many search engines appeared and vied for popularity. These included Excite, Infoseek, Inktomi, Northern Light, and AltaVista. Yahoo! was among the most popular ways for people to find web pages of interest, but its search function operated on its web directory, rather than full-text copies of web pages. Information seekers could also browse the directory instead of doing a keyword-based search.

Search engines were also known as some of the brightest stars in the Internet investing frenzy that occurred in the late 1990s. Several companies entered the market spectacularly, receiving record gains during their initial public offerings. Some have taken down their public search engine, and are marketing enterprise-only editions, such as Northern Light. Many search engine companies were caught up in the dot-com bubble, a speculation-driven market boom that peaked in 1999 and ended in 2001.

Around 2000, the Google search engine rose to prominence. The company achieved better results for many searches with an innovation called PageRank. This iterative algorithm ranks web pages based on the number and PageRank of other web sites and pages that link there, on the premise that good or desirable pages are linked to more than others. Google also maintained a minimalist interface to its search engine. In contrast, many of its competitors embedded a search engine in a web portal.

By 2000, Yahoo was providing search services based on Inktomi‘s search engine. Yahoo! acquired Inktomi in 2002, and Overture (which owned AlltheWeb and AltaVista) in 2003. Yahoo! switched to using Google’s search engine until 2004, when it launched its own search engine based on the combined technologies of its acquisitions.

Google learn from its competitors how to build the best search engine. Became an early mover is not always an advantage. Competitors will lear from your false move to be a better than you in next time.

We can see an example in internet. When AirAsia begin its business, they became a cost leadership in this business. We know that AirAsia presented ini Indonesia make all our flight company shocked. Not just by reducing cost, but by deliver good services to customer, such as easiest to buy a ticket, not too many delay time, etc.

Internet act as enabler for every business to doing the same thing. By reducing price but improve quality too.

We can see first on primary activities. Begin by internal focus logistic, Gramedia must have a stock to deliver ordered books from customer and also have external focus logistic which ensure flow and storage from origin to customer. It affect also to its operations. By being online, Gramedia must change their operation system. They must ensure all channel they have is working well. How ’bout the marketing ? They can use standing booth in their store to promote online site. It is more easy for Gramedia because they known first as a bookstore place. If you have any problem with ur books, Gramedia serving us in their store.

How about the supports ? Gramedia will spend much in IT hardware when they launch it’s homepage. They also had to recruit IT people by it’s HR. So the HR must know what is the habbit from Geeks, how to handle their habbit, etc. In maintaning it’s web Gramedia continuously develop the web by new innovation, new information, new discount, etc.

That are the impact in company value chain by build an e-commerce.

There are nine market segmentation in e-business. That’s what we called Market Segmentation Market. Let me give you an example in Indonesia of every segmentation :

1. Consumer-to-Consumer e.g. www.bekas.com a site where we can buy second hand goods.

2. Business-to-Consumer e.g. www.nokia.co.id an official nokia Indonesia web for its customer.

3. Government-to-Citizen e.g. www.kpk.go.id a site of KPK Indonesia, to inform issues about corruption in Indonesia.

4. Consumer-to-Business e.g. www.wedingku.com this site is all about wedding. You can see all they have honeymoon package, bridal, even your make-up.

5. Business-to-Business e.g. www.astra.co.id a website to enclosed Astra customer which play in same business but more retailing.

6. Government-to-Business e.g. www.pajak.go.id site for business to manage their tax easily.

7. Citizen-to-Government e.g. ? Is this example exist in Indonesia??

8. Business-to-Government e.g. www.pajak.go.id from this site also business provide their financial tax report.

9. Government-to-Government e.g. www.indonesian-embassy.fi a site of indonesian embassy in finland. A way to communicate Indonesia to other country.

There are several e-business market segmentation we can found in Indonesia. Did you know any other sites??

1. Create a new database with the same name and same MDF and LDF files

8. Execute sp_resetstatus <dbname>

9. Restart SQL server and see the database is online.

Did you ever heard about “coopetition” ? Coopetion means cooperative competition. Can you imagine that there are 2 company working together to make a value for customer ? Yes, this is happen.

In banking industry for example, Panin Bank willing to cooperative with other bank in ATM network. Why they want to do that? Because if the other bank build their ATM network Panin can also added that machine as their machine too. Customer can used that ATM to do any transaction. In other case if one of the bank (ex. Citibank) buid a new product (ex. Credit Card), and then as a competitors you may let them success with their product. You can get value from that product by giving a service to pay Citibank Credit Card by your bank.

In this coopetition way. You must let your competitors win, if they win you can get profit also from their growth. This is an interesting topics. We must see other oportunities behind competitors success.

I try to look server security and privileges, everything is OK. Permission is right. And then try to googling, found this reason: Server no permission to my “ID Program”. Never heard before… So rebuild the program using this trick. Make batch file that execute copy command in DOS prompt and then execute it with shell command folow by deleting that batch file.

It works… Never heard before :The ID program blocked !!!

Popularized by O’Reilly, Web 2.0 become a new vision from web technology. Web 2.0 ushered in the following :

• Web as a platform : The web application provides facilities for other applications to avail of its services. User-friendly applications are then developed using services across multiple machines.
• Co-authoring : Web 1.0 applications were controlled by an individual or organization and showcased no facilities for third party interaction. Web 2.0 supports collaborative authoring in Blogger or Wikipedia.
• Rich interfaces (AJAX/DHTML/CSS) : Good user interface is the hallmark of Web 2.0 applications. While Web 1.0 sites were more of hyperlinks, Web 2.0 leverages the insight that good UI experience translates into significant re-visit traffic for the site.

We may know that in the begining of one era there is one big bang, following by frenzy time about this era and than become CRASH, after that the era will be stable and mature. What will be happen in Web 2.0?? Is this a new era ??

Base on my mind, Web 2.0 is a mature version of the internet. People aware about how to utilize technology. Maybe I can give you a little example here. I work in Banking Industry so I try to giving example in this industry.

In Web 1.0 banking industry use its “dot com” to promote its product. But did people find it ? In this Web 2.0 we just simple as posting in Wikipedia or Blogger. People will find out our product completely, is that easy ?

Formerly one customer must access many dot com based on its account. But now there is neccesity to have one web which have featured to display all of his/her account (can it be ?) This is a challenge for banking industry.

That is why I say Web 2.0 is a mature era of the internet.
